Why Sales Candidates Look for Company and Culture

SOPHiA GENETICS genuinely cares about helping. Particularly when you work with clinicians and others whose job it is to treat patients, they appreciate sincerity and know when you believe in what you are selling. At some point, the sale stops feeling like a sale and more like a collaboration among teammates.

Aaron, our Sales Development Manager was featured on BuiltIn.Com in this article.

As a sales representative, what were you looking for in your next role when you started your most recent job search?

Frankly, I just wanted to have an impact. I needed to find a company whose mission I truly believed in. I had spent several years working in the clean tech and clean energy space, and I planned to stay in that industry.

However, when my son was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, everything changed. What was most important to me now was being a part of the mission to find a cure for cancer and to help treat patients like my son. So I set out to find a company that was focused on cancer but was novel in the offerings it brought to the table. I also hoped to find an innovator, a company with a broad, disruptive vision that I could share.

What stood out to you about SOPHiA GENETICS, and how has that perception changed since you’ve started?

I first learned about SOPHiA GENETICS when reading Built in Boston’s Best Places to Work list. They caught my attention with their mission to democratize data-driven medicine and bring innovative, deep machine-learning algorithms to the healthcare industry. But the serendipitous moment occurred when I was reading about their products, and saw that the specific genetic variant that caused my son’s cancer is a variant they tested for on one of their cancer panels. I knew then that somehow I was going to work at SOPHiA GENETICS.

Since I started, I’ve come to appreciate that people here care about our mission and helping others. We are not perfect, but what I respect tremendously is that when we see a problem, we fix it quickly. Many companies say they respond to issues, but few actually do.

From a selling perspective, what sets SOPHiA GENETICS apart from others you've worked at in the past?

SOPHiA GENETICS genuinely cares about helping. Particularly when you work with clinicians and others whose job it is to treat patients, they appreciate sincerity and know when you believe in what you are selling. At some point, the sale stops feeling like a sale and more like a collaboration among teammates.

I think our partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering, orMSK, and AstraZeneca to bring MSK’s Impact and Access assays to the world demonstrates this level of care. These organizations needed an innovative and strong platform, but more importantly, a partner who could share in their vision to improve global cancer care.

Why This Leader Came Back to SOPHiA GENETICS to Shape the Future of Data-Driven Medicine

For VP of Product Management Verena Schramm, returning to the SOPHiA GENETICs meant coming home to a culture she loves, a product suite dominating the market — and a promising future.

Verena Schramm, VP Application Product Management contributed to this external artice on BuiltIn.com

Since returning to SOPHiA GENETICS, what are you most excited to have back in your professional life?

To fully thrive in my professional life, I need a feeling of impact and an environment where everyone works toward the same goals. Despite the expansion and exponential growth the company has gone through in the past few years, I’m lucky to find such an environment and role here at SOPHiA GENETICS.

“Together with my teammates, I’m helping collect the market dynamics and trends that will shape data-driven medicine tomorrow by putting customers at the heart of what we do.”

We define and shape our product roadmap and bring solutions to market that will positively impact patient outcomes.

What drew you back to SOPHiA GENETICS as a boomerang employee?

I first joined SOPHiA GENETICS in a sales role when we had fewer than 20 employees. While I decided to leave to develop my skill set toward product management, I always stayed in touch with former colleagues and followed the remarkable growth of SOPHiA GENETICS over the years. I was especially impressed by the expansion to the American continent and the IPO.

When a former colleague from SOPHiA GENETICS reached out with the perfect opportunity to come back and contribute my experience in product management, I was immediately intrigued. I knew the application portfolio and the SOPHiA DDM platform were competitive in the market.

However, my biggest concern was whether the company culture and strong mission would still be the same despite the organization growing to more than 400 employees. Luckily, every single person I spoke to during the interview process and on the side was able to prove that the core values of SOPHiA GENETICS haven’t changed.

One year into the job, I truly enjoy working with smart, passionate and purpose-driven people every single day to expand access to data-driven medicine and therefore deliver world-class care to patients across the globe.

A glimpse into our Internship Experience 🎬

🎬 We're excited to share a sneak peek into the daily lives of our talented interns working across different departments here at SOPHiA GENETICS. 🎉

Every few months, new faces arrive at SOPHiA GENETICS, sometimes a little nervous, often curious, always full of potential. Each one brings fresh ideas, curiosity, and energy that leave a lasting mark on our teams.

Why is it so special?

Our internship program gives individuals the chance to gain real, hands-on experience and step confidently into a working environment. What makes it stand out is that interns lead their own projects, working independently while having the guidance and support of our experienced professionals. From day one they’re part of the team, contributing to meaningful work and seeing how their efforts connect to the bigger picture of our mission.

From the very start, we work to make sure every intern feels welcome. They’re paired with a dedicated tutor who guides them, answers questions, and helps them navigate both the work and the company. Along the way, they meet people from across departments (sometimes in formal meetings, sometimes over coffee in the kitchen) building a network that often stays with them long after the internship ends.

The projects are as varied as the people who take them on. Some interns dive into data analysis or software development, others work on product, HR initiatives, or lab research. Whatever the field, we make sure they have the tools, resources, and trust to make a real contribution. And when they have ideas, which they always do... we listen.

It’s not all independent work, either. Our interns take part in the life of the company, sharing lunches, attending social committee events. They’re invited to join conversations, ask questions, and share perspectives. More than once, an intern’s fresh point of view has sparked a new approach for the team.

We also know internships are about growth. Not just ours, but theirs. That’s why feedback is part of the journey. We give it often, openly, and constructively, so interns leave with more skills, more confidence, and a clearer idea of where they want to go next.

When an internship ends, we hope our interns walk away with more than a line on their CV. We want them to leave knowing they’ve contributed to something important, learned from people who believed in them, and been part of a workplace where they belonged from day one.

🙌 We're proud to support all of our current interns and look forward to seeing the incredible impact you’ll continue to make.

Bring your learning to life

Mentorship Programme @ SOPHiA GENETICS

At SOPHiA, we believe in investing in our people, and drive that forward with our Mentorship programme.

This program is a unique chance to connect one-on-one with experienced colleagues, gain insight from their journey, and reflect on your own path in a confidential, supportive space.

We’re excited to announce that applications are now open for the second cohort of the 2025 Mentorship Program 🚀

Whether you're looking to grow your strategic thinking, sharpen your interpersonal skills, or get career guidance, there’s a mentor ready to support your development journey.

Mentorship is not about having all the answers—it's about asking the right questions, listening actively, and helping someone reflect, clarify, and move forward with greater confidence.

It’s about:
🔍 Self-discovery – Gaining new insights about your strengths, challenges, and aspirations
💡 Perspective – Seeing problems and opportunities through a different lens
🗺️ Direction – Navigating career paths, decisions, and transitions with more clarity
🤝 Support – Having someone in your corner to help you grow, not judge
📈 Action – Turning conversation into meaningful steps toward your goals

At SOPHiA, mentorship is a shared journey—where both mentor and mentee grow, connect, and build a stronger company culture together.

Last year, we saw incredible engagement — with 20 mentor-mentee pairs sharing open conversations, solving real-time challenges, and discovering new ways to grow.

The Swiss Gardening Club has planted its roots! 🪏🌱

Yesterday marked a fresh and exciting beginning

Our Gardening Club gathered to plant their very first batch of greens.🌿🌱

What started as a simple idea quickly blossomed into a vibrant community, bringing together colleagues from across departments. We’re seeing connections grow as fast as the plants themselves!

By growing our own herbs and plants, we’re taking small but meaningful steps toward a more sustainable workplace.

The goal? Grow plants, friendships, and ideas that support both people and the planet.

Whether you’re a plant pro or just curious, it’s a great community to be part of ! 🌽🍅

Let’s keep growing — together. 💚

Celebrating our brand new Boston office 🏢

'One of our favorite daily rituals, which we picked up from our European colleagues, is our shared lunch. We avoid hurried sandwiches at our desks; everyone pulls up a chair, and for a little while, it feels more like a family meal than a work break.'

Emily, our TA Associate and Sarah, our Senior Corporate Strategy Associate were featured on BuiltIn.Com in this article.

Describe your office space. Where is it located, and what are some of its amenities that put employees front and center?

We just moved into a new office in Fenway right above Time Out Market, and it has been such a refreshing change. The space is bright and open, flooded with natural light and designed to encourage connection. Allowing the outside to come in is important in all of our offices, so natural light is always key!

There are spacious, shared areas for collaboration, as well as cozy nooks when you need to hunker down and focus. If you’re looking to unwind or sharpen your mind, all of our offices also have a book hub, which we set up last year.

We are pretty spoiled here — there is a free gym in the adjacent building, outdoor spots to grab some fresh air and even a tranquil greenhouse room that is perfect for a midday reset. Having great food options downstairs — with employee discounts — definitely makes lunch something to look forward to.

We also have access to beautiful event spaces in the building, including a rooftop with jaw-dropping views of the Boston skyline. All in all, it’s the kind of space that genuinely makes coming into the office something to look forward to.

Please list your favorite spot in the office. Why is it special to you and other employees?

If you’re looking for the heart of the office, you’ll find it in the kitchen. It’s where people naturally gather throughout the day, whether they’re grabbing a quick espresso, raiding the snack shelf or just popping in for a chat.

It’s a small thing, but it brings us closer and gives us a chance to laugh, vent and reset. With cold brew on tap, way too many snacks and the constant buzz of conversation, the kitchen is hands down the most loved — and well-fed — spot in the office.

Are there any office space developments that are underway?

Since our Fenway office is so new, we are still getting settled and figuring out ways to make it even better. Everyone is adding their own personal touch to their desks and figuring out what works best. We love that we have the opportunity to shape the space based on how we actually use it day to day. It has been cool to watch the office evolve organically — like we are building it together, one plant, photo or comfy chair at a time.

It isn’t just Boston we are investing in. Our Boston, France and Switzerland offices are all less than three years old! Each office is thoughtfully designed to match the local team’s needs, whether that’s quiet focus zones, open collaboration areas, dedicated family/maternity spaces or spaces to play and exercise — we have it all. It’s exciting to see how our workspaces are growing right alongside us and our teams.

Internship experiences from ESTIA - Three stories of growth 📈

This year, we had the pleasure of welcoming Virgile, Hugo, and Mohamed – three students from our partner school ESTIA, the famous engineering school in Bidart known for shaping curious and talented minds.

Our connection with ESTIA goes beyond internships. With six ESTIA alumni already working at SOPHiA GENETICS, this partnership is part of our long-term commitment to nurturing local talent and contributing to the regional economy.

They each joined SOPHiA GENETICS with the goal of turning their studies into hands-on experience and seeing how technology can create real change in healthcare. What they discovered here is an opportunity to learn, experiment, and find their own direction.

Virgile
Virgile wanted to build on the foundation he gained at ESTIA while exploring new areas of computer science.

“This is the best internship I’ve done so far – the team is always there to help, and I get to work on things I actually enjoy and understand. If someone from ESTIA likes what we do during our second degree, they will definitely enjoy working here."

Hugo
Hugo joined with a desire to understand how AI and machine learning can be applied to meaningful, real-world problems.

“The collaborative environment, the mentorship, and the modern tech stack helped me grow fast. I’ve learned a lot, not only about building software but about working with people who truly care about what they do."

Mohamed
Mohamed was eager to dive into large-scale projects and quickly found his place within the team.

“What I appreciate most is how welcoming and diverse the company is. My manager and team have supported me every step of the way – I’ve not only developed technical skills but also gained confidence in myself and my ideas.”

For Virgile, Hugo, and Mohamed, this internship has been a chance to learn, challenge themselves, and see the real impact of their work. We wish them continued success and hope they keep building on the skills and confidence they’ve gained here – because young talents like them shape the future.
We’re proud of our partnership with ESTIA and look forward to supporting more students as they build their careers, and perhaps the future of SOPHiA GENETICS.

Living our Virtues - "We Do" and "We Empower"

We don't just talk about our virtues, or leave them as pretty words on our website or posters in the office. They sit at the heart of everything we do, guiding our actions and shaping our behaviour. When colleagues truly live these virtues, we celebrate them as our 'Virtuosos'.

Every quarter we celebrate our colleagues who go above and beyond, who make extraordinary things happen, turning challenges into progress and collaboration into real impact, by nominating them for the Virtuoso Awards. It’s not just about words; it’s about making them part of our daily lives.

After weeks of "undercover missions" and investigations, the mystery is solved and it's time to reveal our Virtuoso winners for two of our Virtues: We Do and We Empower.

Individual Virtuoso - Jaume Bonet Martinez

Senior Manager, Bioinformatics - Tertiary Analysis.

Jaume led major improvements on our annotation system on the SOPHiA DDMTM Platform writing most of the code, helping his team stay focused, and made sure things were done on time and done well.

Jaume truly showed us what We Do means and was nominated by seven colleagues ! 💻🚀

🏆 Reward: A trip to work from the SOPHiA GENETICS international office of his choice for 4–5 days — to connect with colleagues, collaborate in person, and enjoy a change of scenery. ✈️🌍

Cross-Functional Virtuoso – The Navan Expense Project Team

Cecilia Tatout, Annette Monneron, Murat Toral, Pavla Kotrikova, Lorianne Beyries, Guillaume Wiedmer,Antoine Migault, Thomas Moore, Jayasankar Peethambaran.

Colleagues from our Finance, People Management, Tech departments came together to improve the way we manage expenses — replacing our old tool with a new, smart system using AI to save precious time to travellers.
The result? A much better experience with more time focused on tasks that matter most.

🏆 Reward: A team building activity for the whole group to enjoy together — a chance to celebrate the win, connect, and have some well-deserved fun after a job is well done!

Our Virtuoso Awards remind us that behind every innovation and improvement are passionate people driving it forward and embracing our Virtues.

Our mission is bold and serious, but we don't always have to take ourselves too seriously on the journey. 🎬 Curious how we unveiled our winners to our colleagues? Watch the (spy-movie-inspired) film here.

Our Talent, Our DNA: Sarah

One of the best parts of SOPHiA GENETICS is people behind it. Every project, every breakthrough, every “aha” moment starts with someone who cares enough to make it happen. That’s why we’re starting something new: Our Talents, Our DNA.

Our series shines a light on the people who make SOPHiA GENETICS what it is. It's about their stories, their passions, their everyday drive.

If you've ever worked with Sarah, you know how much energy and thought she brings to the table. As our Senior Corporate Strategy Associate in Boston, she’s one of those people who can see and make both the big picture, and the tiny details work together.

In our first episode, Sarah talks about what motivates her, the challenges she’s faced, and what she’s learned along the way. She shares advice that’s honest and refreshingly simple: stay curious and never underestimate the impact of showing up fully as yourself.

As we grow, it’s easy to focus on goals and numbers. But what really connects us is knowing each other — who we are, what we care about, and why we do what we do.

Leadership Development

At SOPHiA GENETICS, we believe leadership is key to success. It is about how you inspire, support, and empower others, no matter where you are in your career. Everyoneneeds fresh ideas, new skills, and a support along the way. That’s why leadership development is an ongoing journey for which we’ve created programs to help our people grow as leaders at every stage of their journey.

Two of our key initiatives are the Women’s Leadership Club and the Emerging Leader Program— each with its own focus, and both built on the same foundation: connection, learning, and real-life application.

The Women's Leadership Club

Think of it as a space to connect, share, and grow. Senior leaders from across the company come together to talk about real challenges, share ideas, and lift each other up for a more diverse leadership

Each month, a group member prepares a theme that is then discussed collectively. In 2025, the group spoke about:

The importance of new leadership competencies and connecting with people

Saying “yes” and “no” effectively

Being both a mother and a leader

Women leaders across the globe

Building confidence and resilience in leadership

Emerging Leader Training

Throughout 2024 and 2025, we designed our own Leadership Program. We looked at what it takes for us to be future-focused and we knew enabling our leaders would be the key. Designed for those stepping into leadership roles or looking to grow into them, this program focuses on the skills needed to lead effectively.

The program is made of:

A 1.5-day interactive, hands-on training session

The creation of a personal action plan to guide your development

1:1 coaching with Slawomir as you apply your new skills

Reinforcement through e-learning modules and peer-to-peer sessions

Optional: Access to additional resources such as mentorship and recommended reading

Participants explore and practice tools focusing on giving and receiving feedback, coaching, building influence, creating trust and leading with authenticity. It’s practical, interactive, and built to apply directly to everyday work.

“45 leaders have already gone through the program, rating it 4.8/5 and 85% of participants created an action plan for themselves that they apply through coaching with their managers. “ says Julie Romain, Head of Talent Management.

We know that strong leaders build strong teams, trong teams achieve their goals better and faster. By investing in leadership development – we are shaping the future of SOPHiA GENETICS

Our Global Social Committees - Bringing people together

Work is better when you enjoy the people you work with. That’s why our Social Committees in Boston and Rolle put so much heart into bringing us together.

They’re made up of colleagues from different teams who volunteer their time to plan social events.

Casual after-work meetups, big celebrations, seasonal gatherings, and themed lunches, all of these little moments brighten our week, keep us connected, and make the workplace feel like a community.

These moments help us get to know each other outside of our professional roles, and that makes working together even better.

These spaces help us stay connected, energized, and true to who we are, not just as professionals, but as people.

Because when we live our Virtues, we shape a culture where everyone can grow and contribute with purpose.

Social Summers

At SOPHiA GENETICS, culture is at the heart of everything we do. It’s what helps us work well together, support each other, and enjoy the journey along the way. Work can sometimes move fast, with challenges and deadlines to meet. What makes the difference are the small, everyday moments: sharing a laugh, helping a teammate, or celebrating a win. These moments bring us closer and remind us why being part of a team matters.

Our social committees in Boston and Rolle, as well as our Comité Social d'Entreprise in France, play a big role in making these moments happen. They organize events that take us out of the daily routine and give us space to connect, from casual get-togethers to big celebrations. In Rolle, colleagues have also created their own clubs, for running, reading, gaming, and more. All built by employees for employees who want to share what they love.

This summer, we saw our culture come to life in some special ways:

In Bidart, colleagues joined the famous Fêtes de Bayonne, celebrating together in the heart of the Basque Country.

In Rolle, we gathered for a summer BBQ, with good food, laughter, games and the chance to relax under the sun.

In Boston, the team set sail on the Valiant, sharing a unique experience on the water and creating memories that will be talked about long after summer ends.

All of this helps us stay connected, energized, and true to who we are, not just as professionals, but as people. Our Virtues guide us, but it’s the way we live them every day that makes our culture real.

At SOPHiA GENETICS, we’re building this culture together, and that’s what makes it special.

Background Noise! 🎸

At SOPHiA GENETICS, we often say we’re powered by brilliant minds and a culture that lets those minds shine. But sometimes, that brilliance takes a very different form than you might expect — like a rock band.

Meet Background Noise, the band created by a group of SOPHiANS who wanted to bring people together through music. It started as a fun idea and quickly grew into something bigger: a symbol of creativity, connection, and the belief that work and life should inspire each other.

The name itself is a perfect fit for our mission. Just like SOPHiA GENETICS works to cut through the noise of data to find the signals that matter, the band reminds us that meaning often emerges when people come together to create something authentic.

A moment with Cecilia, VP Strategic Finance

Have you ever felt like companies talk about “career growth” but don’t really mean it? We get it. At SOPHiA GENETICS, we believe that a company grows best when its people grow first. For us, people development is a commitment to creating an environment where every individual feels supported, valued, and empowered to reach their potential both professionally and personally.

To share what this looks like from the inside, we listened to Cecilia – Our Vice President, Strategic Finance, whose own career journey at SOPHiA GENETICS reflects just how much growth, curiosity, and trust are part of our culture.

Your career has evolved a lot since you first arrived. Can you tell us about your journey at SOPHiA GENETICS?

“I’ve been fortunate to experience a very rich career journey since I joined the company. I started in the Finance team at a time when the company had fewer than 150 employees and had just begun commercializing the solution. This gave me the opportunity to set up many of the foundations for the Finance function — for example, implementing our ERP system.

As the company grew, I was able to contribute to major and very exciting projects, with the IPO being the most impactful example. I also had the chance to spend two years in the Product and Medical department, working on broader corporate and cross-functional projects and focused on business insights. That experience was extremely enriching and gave me a much wider perspective on the business and its strategic challenges.

When I returned to Finance, I came back with that broader vision, which now allows me to contribute differently to the organization.”

Where was the biggest learning opportunity for you so far? Was it, for example, about the people you encountered or rather the projects you completed?

“My time in the Product and Medical department was probably the most transformational learning opportunity for me. Working closely with people from very different backgrounds was extremely enriching, it challenged me to approach problems differently, to adapt my communication style, and to understand the business from new perspectives.

This experience still serves me a lot in my current role. It helps me be a stronger business partner, because I can better connect with colleagues across functions, understand their priorities, and build solutions that create value not only for Finance but for the business as a whole.”

When you wanted to learn something new or take your career in a certain direction, how did SOPHiA GENETICS support you?

“One of the things I really value about SOPHiA GENETICS is that the company knows how to give people a real chance.

Being a fast-growing company and going through several important phases, from scale-up to IPO, and even navigating the post-Covid context, there has never been a lack of exciting projects.

What I appreciate most is that SOPHiA GENETICS is very open and supportive in allowing people to get involved in the projects that interest them.

This creates great opportunities to learn, grow, and develop new skills. I’ve personally benefited a lot from this flexibility and encouragement to step into new challenges."

If you had to sum up our approach to people development from your own perspective, what would you say?

“At SOPHiA GENETICS, opportunities to grow and take on new challenges are never lacking. It’s up to each of us to identify what interests us and to discuss it, because the company is very supportive and truly empowers people to step into these opportunities.

What I would also highlight is that you don’t have to wait for opportunities to come to you. From time to time, you need to speak up about how you’d like to grow and where you’d like to go, so the company can adapt and offer the right opportunities. It’s not only about what the company provides, your own initiative plays an important role too.”

We know that professional development doesn’t happen in isolation. The foundation for learning and growth is the feeling of safety, respect and being included, and we are proud of our diverse teams and the culture of trust we build together.

2025: Our Talent Development Programmes

At SOPHiA GENETICS, learning is part of everyday life. Growth comes from people, from the conversations we have, the experiences we share, and the way we learn together along the way. Our Talent Programs are here to support people through different moments of their journey, from joining the company to eventually evolving to leadership.

And it all begins with our Onboarding Experience Program, where managers and buddies support new joiners through their first months, helping them feel connected, confident, and ready to perform. With an onboarding experience rated above 4.6/5, we focus on belonging as much as performance.

In 2025, our Women’s Leadership Club has been bringing female leaders together. Through monthly meetings, the group explored topics such as confidence, finding one's voice, setting boundaries, and navigating leadership challenges with clarity and authenticity. More than a formal initiative, the club creates a trusted space where experiences could be shared honestly and where connection, perspective, and encouragement plays a central role.

The Emerging Leader Program has been enabling managers in strengthening their leadership skills through in-person sessions, practical tools, and coaching with the manager. Participants have worked on real-life situations, developed action plans, and reflected on how to lead more consciously in their daily work.

Through our Mentorship Program, colleagues have been paired with their match across functions to share perspectives and support each other’s development. With around 25 mentor–mentee pairs this year, the program has helped strengthen relationships, encourage honest exchange, and reinforce a culture of support throughout the company.

We continue to invest in our Internship Program, by welcoming 30+ young talents and guiding them with hands-on projects, real responsibilities, and dedicated mentorship with a 4.9/5 satisfaction score and 45% retention rate.

Behind all these initiatives is one simple belief: real growth happens in the flow of work, through people learning from each other.
Thank you to everyone who participated in 2025, including the mentors, coaches, and have showed up with openness and curiosity. This is how we continue building a culture where development feels genuine, inclusive, and alive.

And this is only the beginning...

In this new episode of Our Talents, Our DNA, we’re introducing Christina, Customer Support Manager.

Christina has been part of SOPHiA GENETICS for a little over four years now. A strong sense of purpose is something that keeps her motivated every day, knowing that her work supports healthcare professionals and, ultimately, patients.

Women Leadership Club: 2025 RECAP

At SOPHiA GENETICS, we know that talent is everywhere, but opportunity doesn’t always follow at the same pace. That’s especially true when it comes to women in leadership. Across the biotech and tech industries, women are still underrepresented at senior levels. While many teams are close to gender-balanced overall, leadership roles often tell a different story. Globally, women hold around one third of leadership positions in biotech, and far fewer at executive or board level. Progress is happening, but it’s slow.

Over the past year, the Women’s Leadership Club continued to be a space for honest conversations, shared experiences, and mutual support among senior leaders across the company. Meeting monthly, the group came together to step back from day-to-day work and reflect on the challenges, the trade-offs, and what leadership really looks like. Each session was led by a member of the group, bringing a topic shaped by real experiences and current questions.

In 2025, discussions focused on:

How leadership expectations are evolving and what new competencies are needed today

Learning to say “yes” with intention, and “no” without guilt

Navigating leadership while being a parent

Sharing perspectives from women leaders across different regions and cultures

Building confidence and resilience over the long term

The Women’s Leadership Club plays an important role in supporting this progress by creating space for reflection, connection, and by strengthening women’s voice and visibility in leadership. And we’re committed to going further: continuing to strengthen representation, open doors, and grow the number of women in leadership over time.

How we create clear pathways toward career development

'The Internship programme at SOPHiA GENETICS changed my life!'

Julie, our former Head of Talent Managment, was featured on BuiltIn.com in this article. Julie spent 9 years with SOPHiA, growing from an intern through to a global leader before recently making the decision to take a career break and travel the world!

What makes promotion criteria feel fair and clear — and what evidence supports it?

I joined SOPHiA GENETICS as a marketing intern and left as head of talent management. Over the years, I grew both horizontally and vertically, taking on new roles as the company evolved. I moved from marketing to sales enablement, and later from sales enablement to talent management, each time expanding my skills and scope, sometimes as an individual contributor and sometimes as a people leader.

Along the way, I was promoted several times as my responsibilities increased. Strong performance in the current role and attitude are key criteria in promotions: Living the Seven Virtues of SOPHiA GENETICS is absolutely essential for career growth, as they define what great looks like and are intertwined with one’s ability to deliver results.

People at SOPHiA GENETICS grow hand in hand with the company. The more SOPHiA GENETICS grows, the more opportunities for new roles and extended scopes open, which creates real opportunities for people to develop and progress both personally and professionally, just as it was the case for me.

Which program most improved your capability in your role — and what changed after?

The internship program at SOPHiA GENETICS changed my life. In just three months, it gave me a strong foundation in marketing and, more importantly, a unique opportunity to work directly with the head of sales and the CEO on the company’s very first pitch.

Back in 2015, we didn’t yet have a well-rounded pitch that truly unified the sales team. I spent hours working side by side with the CEO to shape the right story and capture SOPHiA GENETICS’ vision in a way that would resonate and grab attention. It worked. As a result, I was asked to train the entire sales team on mastering the pitch, which is how I found my way into sales enablement.

From that moment on, I was drawn to helping people grow. It started with supporting sales and later evolved into supporting people across the entire organization. In my role, I also had the opportunity to take the internship program to the next level in my role. Today, we have over 30 interns, with 100 percent of them reporting their willingness to continue working at SOPHiA GENETICS full-time after their internship. This is possible because tutors and managers at SOPHiA truly invest the time to train, support, and mentor the next generation.

What manager or mentor behavior consistently accelerates growth?

I observe a clear pattern at SOPHiA GENETICS: The managers who build the strongest teams are those who create space for honest feedback and, as a result, for growth. They are not afraid to speak the truth to their team members and peers, always with the genuine intention of helping them develop. I find this approach both rare and invaluable, and it reflects our shared mantra, We Care. We care for our customers, for the growth of our company, and first and foremost, for our people.

This culture is lived daily on the job rather than driven by a specific program. It is deeply ingrained in how we work and enables each individual to identify and pursue opportunities for growth. Personally, this environment has significantly accelerated my development: My best managers helped me adapt my communication style and project confidence, even when I initially lacked it.

I have been able to do something I believe is truly meaningful with clear impact for the world...

and I got to have so much fun whilst doing it!

Our Talents, Our DNA: Ayssar

In this new episode of Our Talents, Our DNA, we’re introducing Ayssar Mahamoud, Customer Success Manager for Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Ayssar’s role is about building relationships. He works closely with oncologists, pathologists, and geneticists to ensure they get the most out of our solution, helping them reach their goals and ultimately support better patient outcomes.

But his journey didn’t start there.

At one point, Ayssar realized he wanted to be closer to people, closer to customers, closer to impact. Instead of staying in his original role, he asked questions, explored his strengths, and worked with our Talent Management team to understand how he could grow into something new.

His journey is proof that careers don’t have to follow one straight line. New opportunities can open even in completely different departments with curiosity, initiative, and the right support.

🎥 Want to learn more about his transition and the possibilities to grow within SOPHiA GENETICS? Watch the full episode and discover Ayssar’s story.

Face of Industrial Research 2026

What a great day at Faces of Industrial Research 2026!

We had the opportunity to connect with 100+ students and researchers coming from diverse backgrounds: life sciences, engineering, data science, chemistry, and beyond. Throughout the day the curiosity, the questions, and the energy were truly inspiring.

Our speaker, Fabio De Martino, shared his perspective on

“Beyond academia - what changes, what doesn’t, and why curiosity matters most.”

He spoke about the transition from research to industry, the realities behind the shift, and how staying curious can be your biggest advantage in any environment.

At our booth, we had many meaningful conversations - about career paths, internships, first roles in industry, and what working at SOPHiA GENETICS really looks like. It’s always motivating to meet people who are thinking intentionally about their next steps.

We are grateful for the opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, and support the next generation of scientists and innovators.
Looking forward to continuing these conversations and hopefully welcoming some of you to SOPHiA GENETICS in the future 🤍

Emerging Leader Training: 2026 Cohorts🚀

In February, we welcomed the first cohort of 2026 to the Emerging Leader Program at SOPHiA GENETICS.

SOPHiANs traveled from France, Germany, Italy, and beyond to join us in Switzerland, alongside leaders working in transversal roles across teams and functions. With more than 55 nationalities represented across SOPHiA GENETICS, investing in leaders who can connect teams, navigate complexity, and build trust across cultures is more important than ever.

Throughout the program, participants shared experiences and explored practical leadership topics such as connecting vision to action, engaging and motivating teams, giving meaningful feedback, building influence, and leading through change.

A special thank you to Gianfranco Piroli for joining the cohort and sharing valuable insights on change management and the ADKAR framework.
Thank you to all the participants who brought curiosity, thoughtful questions, and a collaborative spirit to the program.

And the journey continues: two additional cohorts are planned this year — in Boston in Q3 and in Rolle in Q4!

Our Talents, Our DNA: Sofia

In this new episode of Our Talents, Our DNA, we meet Sofia Ridray, who leads Quality and Process Optimization at SOPHiA GENETICS.

Before joining SOPHiA GENETICS, Sofia worked in consulting at Deloitte. She brought with her a mindset that continues to shape her work today: seeing organizations like buildings, where strong foundations are essential for sustainable, structured growth.

At the heart of her work is a strong focus on delivering high-quality outcomes to customers. Together with her team, Sofia ensures that processes are robust and reliable, always with the goal of meeting the highest standards for patients and partners.

For Sofia, learning happens across the company not within a single team or level, but through collaboration, understanding how science, technology, and operations connect and embracing new perspectives.

In a fast-growing environment like SOPHiA GENETICS, things move quickly. As Sofia shares, this can be challenging but it also reflects a high level of trust, with opportunities to take ownership early and make a real impact.

Want to hear more about Sofia’s perspective and her role?
Watch the full episode and discover her story.

Our Talents, Our DNA: Tatiana

From our Bidart office, between the ocean and the mountains, this new episode of Our Talents, Our DNA introduces Tatiana, part of our Accounts Receivable team at SOPHiA GENETICS.

Tatiana has been with us for two years, playing a key role in supporting our customers: from invoicing and cash collection to answering their day-to-day questions. Her work sits at the intersection of finance and customer relationships, where attention to detail meets a strong business mindset.
Her journey to SOPHiA GENETICS is shaped by diverse experiences: starting in sales, then moving into auditing at a Big4 firm. This combination gave her both analytical rigor and a strong understanding of business and customer needs.

The company’s mission had a personal meaning for her, especially after losing a family member to cancer. Being part of something that contributes to healthcare made her decision to join even more impactful.
Her advice is to not be afraid to ask questions, connect with people across teams, and most importantly, not to be afraid to make mistakes - that’s where the real learning happens.

🎥 Want to hear more about Tatiana’s journey and what drives her?
Watch the full episode and discover her story.
