Pierre joined SOPHiA GENETICS as an intern after graduating from EPFL. He was looking for a company that felt aligned with his values, and our mission and impact on patients immediately spoke to him. 

His internship turned into a full-time opportunity, and two years later, Pierre is now a Software Engineer working on cloud solutions that support our Data Science teams and the development of solutions for our customers. 

In his role, Pierre has also learned that being a good engineer goes beyond technical skills. When something critical happens, he explains, the key is to stay calm, communicate clearly what is happening, manage expectations, and work with different teams to find the right solution. Working with data that can get very abstract, he also reminds himself that what they do matters: "on our own scale, we do something that is positive."

When asked what surprised him most when he joined SOPHiA, his answer was simple: how accessible everyone is. No matter the role or level of seniority, he feels he can reach out to someone, ask a question, grab a coffee, or simply learn from their experience. 
Pierre says what keeps him motivated is "connecting with the people that are inspiring me within the company, who are very rich in experience and have perspective on career, on the work we do, and just on life generally." 

This openness has played an important part in his own development. He advises those who are just starting out in their career to "ask questions and give yourself time to learn." Pierre's journey is a reminder that growth comes from both genuine curiosity and connection.
