Are you an experienced NGS Scientist with strong hands-on expertise in sequencing and assay development? Ready to design and execute complex experiments that will shape the next generation of precision diagnostics?

If this sounds like you and you are driven by purpose, join the SOPHiA GENETICS R&D team as our NGS Scientist, and enable us to make a positive impact on the outcomes for cancer and rare disease patients worldwide.

The nature of this role means you can expect to be in the lab 3-5 Days PW onsite at our facility in Rolle, CH so you should live in a commutable distance.

Our Mission

We believe there is a smarter, more data-driven way to make decisions in healthcare and our cloud-native AI powered SOPHiA DDM Platform makes that vision a reality on a daily basis. You will have direct input to our mission to democratize data-driven medicine for the ultimate benefit of cancer and rare disease patients across the globe. Our products are used by thousands of healthcare institutions globally and provide world leading capabilities for the analysis of genomic, clinical, and imaging data.

Your Mission

As our NGS Scientist you will drive the design, execution, and optimization of NGS experiments that underpin our regulated and research projects. You will translate high‑level project goals into robust laboratory plans. Your work will span assay setup, protocol refinement, and troubleshooting across different sample types and sequencing technologies.

You will collaborate closely with technicians to scale and execute studies, and with bioinformaticians to ensure that experimental design and data analysis are tightly aligned. You will be responsible for interpreting results, proposing data‑driven improvements to data generation workflows, and clearly communicating your findings to internal and external stakeholders. Your contributions will be central to delivering high‑quality and clinically relevant NGS solutions.

The value you add:

  • Design, plan and execute NGS experiments, from sample preparation to sequencing, in alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot NGS assay workflows, including selection and fine‑tuning of protocols, reagents and enzymes
  • Interpret project and regulatory requirements (e.g. IVDR, design control) to define robust experimental designs
  • Working closely with a team of data analysts to design and execute experiments that answer key questions about genetic targets and disease pathways
  • Evaluating protocols and data obtained from NGS experiments using different technologies
  • Analyze and synthesize experimental results into clear, well‑structured reports and presentations for internal and cross‑functional stakeholders and present project progress and scientific findings confidently.

Requirements

We know that every background is different, but to be best set for success we see you bringing:

  • PhD in a relevant life science discipline (e.g. Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology or related field)
  • 2–5 years of proven, hands-on experience with NGS-based assays in an industrial, academic, or clinical setting (this experience may be partly gained during the PhD)
  • Solid technical understanding in molecular biology techniques relevant to NGS (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, targeted enrichment, PCR)
  • Strong skills in NGS technologies and data analysis workflow, and ability to interact effectively with bioinformaticians and other cross-functional stakeholders
  • Assay development and optimization (including experimental design, troubleshooting, and workflow improvement) alongside experience working under design control or within regulated environments (e.g. IVD/IVDR, FDA submissions, CDx) is highly valuable

Benefits

You will be joining an organisation with the patient at the heart of every decision and action, driven by purpose as we pursue exponential growth.
